Next-Gen EVS Complex in the Works at Ford in Oakville, Ontario

In order to transform Oakville Assembly Complex, Ford Motor Company is investing C$1.8 billion. This investment and transformation will be a key part of Ford’s plan to scale production of electric vehicles and make them more accessible to millions of customers! Retool and Modernizing will take place in the second quarter of 2024 to prepare for production of next-generation EVs. The complex will also be renamed to ‘Oakville Electric Vehicle Complex’. This is the first time for a full-line automaker announces plans to produce passenger EVs in Canada for the North American market.

Ford will be able to repurpose and transform existing buildings into a state-of-the-art facility that leverages Ford of Canada’s skilled and experienced workforce. Their strategic approach is to transform its industrial  system to expand EV production, like building new greenfield sites and transforming existing manufacturing sites.

The Oakville site is 487-acres and includes three body shops, one paint building, and one assembly building. After transformation, a new 407,000 square-foot-on-site battery plant will be placed on campus. This battery plant will utilize cells and arrays from BlueOval SK Battery Park in Kentucky. The workers at Oakville will then take these components to assemble battery packs that will be installed in vehicles assembled on-site.
