Ford Shares Important Tip for Driving Your Electric Vehicle in the Cold

All electric vehicles experience a decrease in range during cold temperatures, here’s a tip for these cold winter months!❄

To get ready for longer commutes during the winter, preconditioning lets customers pre-heat their EV battery and cabin with electricity from the charger, instead of their vehicle’s battery. This helps Ford EVs work smart, not hard, to preserve range.

All-electric vehicles experience energy decreases in cold temperatures due to battery cell chemistry. Temperatures below 40°F cause the electrolyte fluid to become sluggish, limiting how much power is available to discharge and how quickly the vehicle’s battery can charge. As customers across the United States and Canada begin their first winter with their new electric vehicles, Ford wants to help make them aware that in low temperatures they could see a significant reduction in range, which is normal.

Using the FordPass app, EV drivers can set a departure time for the week so that the vehicle has time to warm up before its time to go!
